When I was invited to a food bloggers dinner at d’Artagnan Restaurant I actually had no idea the restaurant existed (sorry d’Artagnan!). Once I started to ask around however, it seemed like the place had a pretty solid rep. Why had I never heard of it before? I wasn’t quite sure, but I was keen to check it out with the enthusiasm of a construction worker watching a pretty girl go by! SWEET RACK…. OF WINE!!!
Upon arrival we were offered a G+ T and had a chance to small talk it up with some of our fellow bloggers. I got the chance to have a chat with THE D-Bites herself which is basically Adelaide Food Blogger Royalty right there! With ridiculously comfy chairs and lush earthy tones this dining room is a place you want to be. Highlighted with gold accents, its perfectly executed decor certainly sets the tone for a swanky dining experience.
I wouldn’t say d’Artagnan’s menu is particularly innovative however unlike the last election… it had some solid candidates. I went with the eye fillet with carrots, scalloped potatoes and a generous drizzling of béarnaise sauce. This steak was certainly a contender for a spot in my top 10 steaks of all time. It was cooked to medium-rare perfection and the quality of the meat was dynamite! If you want to know what my hands-down best steak of all time is, check out this place when you’re in Shanghai. It's the closest I have ever come to re-enacting the ‘I’ll have what she’s having’ scene! Oh god, oh god, OH GOD!!! Who needs a BF when you have the memory of that steak to keep you warm at night?
The other meals that landed on our bloggers table looked to be equally as impressive as my moreish meat. They were all beautifully presented dishes of undeniable quality. The general consensus I believe was an enthusiastic thumbs up.
The sides that came with the meals I thought left a little to be desired. There was just no gastro-inspo to be seen. They were as boring as listening to someone talk about how many uni assignments they have due in the next 2 weeks. Aaaaaaaannnd onto the next topic please!
After dins we went for a little trundle or pilgrimage if you will to The Curious Squire. Same owners, wouldn’t you know it! They also own two other little gems in Adelaide *coughthepalacecough* and *coughredsquarecough*. Sorry I had to disguise them in cough form for fear that saying them out loud may cause nauseousness.
And the sum up? Number 1: d’Artagnan is worth a peek. It’s perfect for peeps who have a thing for the classic dining experience. Number 2: The Curious Squire is perfect for ‘just desserts.’
Until next time… Stay Rad-elaide.
