One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Everybody in the car, so come on let's ride.....

Need another reason why Adelaide is one of the sweetest places to live? I have one word for you….HAHNDORF. The wine, the food and the festivities, Hahndorf is my cherry on top of the delectable sundae that is Adelaide living. There is nothing more enjoyable than taking a quick roadie (because sometimes nothing beats a quickie!) up to this Germanic paradise on a lazy Sunday afternoon and indulging in anything your heart desires. I certainly mean anything because at this tourist hot-spot there is a whole indulgence directory at your fingertips!

The treat of choice on my last lil’ day trip you ask? Chocolate! Velvety, creamy, deliciously dreamy hot chocolate to be precise, from Chocolate@ No. 5. This dessert dreamland is located right on the main street in Hahndorf in a cute-as-a-button cottage. With wooden floor boards and rustic stone walls, this place is like a warm and cosy cubby house.
While perusing the menu it was pretty clear that Chocolate @ No. 5 is somewhat conservative, like your dad who refuses to wear that baby pink Ralph Lauren knit he was given for his birthday. The menu is fairly basic, sticking to the classics like waffles, fondues and croissants which is a-ok with me, just as long as they are done exceptionally.

First up were the hot chocolates. My dessert companion ordered the milk hot chocolate and I decided to mix it up a touch and go with the white hot chocolate. They were both ahh-maze with a rich and velvety chocolate flavour like no other. I could say that it was the best white hot chocolate I have ever had but that’s not saying much…. as it’s the first one I have ever had. I will however raise the stakes and say that it was the best hot chocolate I have ever had.  It was maybe even the best hot chocolate that any person has ever had in the history of hot chocolate. Ok, ok…. I took it too far, my bad.
For dessert we went for the strawberry waffles with extra chocolate sauce and the banana cake. The waffles were perfection, being crispy on the outside and delightfully doughy on the inside. Accompanied with a smooth and delectable chocolate sauce these waffles have to be amongst the best in town. I also couldn’t have been happier with my banana cake which was super moist and full of that bananarama flavour.

People are going gangbusters over this Hahndorf sweet spot and I for one can definitely see why. So take a trip up there and check it out!

Until next time… Stay Rad-elaide.
