So where’s the newest BG in town? Yep, you guys guessed it! The Curious Squire on O’Connell is where it is at! This new bar slash restaurant is like the new kid at school. Everyone wants to gather around him and check out that cool Action Man lunchbox he’s been parading around. After my exams were done and dusted I decided that my introduction back into society needed to be a fabulous one. It was time to be a lady-who-lunches and head to this new joint with ma’ broads for a mid-week treat.
Firstly to decide on a beverage, and by that I mean, ‘did you want Squire, Squire or Squire?’ With the variety and top tastes that Ol’ Mate James has on his taps I certainly don’t hear anyone complaining and there is also a great selection of wines. I went with champagne because I was celebrating and well… who am I kidding? I’m not very original.
The menu is pretty vast and really offers something for everyone. It is a touch ’pub-ier’ than I had expected (just add that to the list of words I’ve made up) but I’ve gotta say, it works! I decided to indulge in a Sliders Duo on the smaller plates list and they were yummo. How can you go wrong with a chicken parmy slider really? The potato skins were also super tasty with a beautiful crunch BUT they were seriously stingy with the sour cream. I’m like a tyre, if I’m having a blowout; I’m not doing it in a controlled fashion! Speaking of blowouts.. their ‘choccy fudge cake’ was so insane it was un-sane. I suspect the rest of the desserts are just as impressive and this place could double as a dessert mecca on the north-side! You heard it here first folks and I am going to be getting back there super soon for their deep friend Oreos. Yes, you heard me right.
The service also deserves an honourable mention. We had two fellas that attended to us and they were both super personable. You could just tell they really enjoyed their jobs, which is a nice way to be served! Get there for a beverage soon and soak up some sun in that beautiful beer garden of theirs. But don’t, I repeat DON’T eat beforehand because the food is the true showstopper.
Until next time… Stay Rad-elaide.
For a pub/bar/eatery spot, I too was really impressed with their service! That 'choccy fudge cake' sounds a treat... I might need to round up a few more folks to share the calories with me!
